PORTAGE, Wis (May 21, 2013) – Leading up to TUNDRA Super Late Model Series Round One and through the first events of the season we will be introducing the drivers who plan to compete in the full 2013 TUNDRA schedule.

Mike Egan 44 GEM Motorsports
Mike Egan, Slinger Wisconsin.

Mike Egan’s career seems as though it is aging like a fine wine. As the Slinger, Wis., veteran continues to log laps at the point where others’ careers start to tail off, Egan is gaining strength and momentum heading into the 2013 season.

Last season Egan finished third in Super Late Model standings at Slinger Speedway. He won two features and garnered fast time honors twice.

However, he did so as he’s always done – in his own equipment. This season Egan will be teaming with Gary and Elaine Kawleski of GEM Motorsports.

“It’s going to be very different. I’ve never driven anyone else’s car but my own,” Egan said. “Gary and I think a lot alike. He’s as particular about his car as I am. I’m very optimistic and excited about racing with them.”

The partnership formed through Ed Holmes and Holmes Motorsports. Egan and Kawleski met there initially, then struck up another conversation at the IMIS show in Indianapolis. It was the conversation that led to them to decide to partner for the 2013 season.

Egan, who has raced in all ten events TUNDRA has hosted at Dells Raceway Park over the past two seasons is eager to team with GEM at some new venues in 2013. “It’s going to be exciting because I’ve never raced anywhere but Slinger, Madison and the Dells,” Egan said. “A lot of the tracks we’re going to I’ve never even seen yet.”

While Egan may not have experienced the likes of Golden Sands, Marshfield and LaCrosse, GEM has won events at all three including a segment of the Trickle 99 at Oktoberfest.

With that experience, Egan expects to be running up front often on the road with TUNDRA while balancing success at his home track as well. “My prediction is that we’re going to win at least one feature and get one fast time (in TUNDRA). We’re going to work hard at winning the Slinger track championship too.”

Chad Devine 54 Mackville Motorsports machine
Chad Devine, Appleton, Wis.

The Devines have become well known as car owners over the past few seasons with hot shoe Jeremy Lepak at the helm. But that doesn’t mean that they haven’t logged their share of laps behind the wheel – and Chad Devine is looking to put his 20-plus years on display during the TUNDRA 2013 season.

Devine will be piloting his Mackville Motorsports number 54 at all six TUNDRA races this season and is looking forward to the opportunity to jump back into the Super Late Model division. Last season Devine split his season as a weekly Late Model between Columbus 151 Speedway and Dells Raceway Park.

“We felt that TUNDRA was going to be a good opportunity to get out and do some traveling events,” Devine said. “We feel the series is working for the racer, trying to make it a good deal for the tracks and the competitors.”

As a team that has been through many different race seasons at venues such as Golden Sands, Marshfield, Wisconsin International Raceway and even Norway (Mich.), the Devines will have a good sense of direction at each TUNDRA race this season.

The only track that Chad has not driven on is Jefferson. However, the Devines have prepared race machines for Wisconsin’s Action Track.

“So far I’m excited about it,” Devine said. “One track is on my bucket list and that’s Jefferson. We’ve had a few cars run there, but I’ve never actually driven there. I enjoy Golden Sands, Marshfield and LaCrosse.”

“It’s a good fit.,” Devine said of the 2013 schedule. “Six to eight races is a good number. It doesn’t get too expensive, but you get to get out there and have some fun.”

Fan gates open at 11 a.m. at Golden Sands Speedway for TUNDRA Round One presented by Element Mobile. Qualifying is scheduled for 1:15 p.m. and racing is scheduled to start at 3 p.m. TUNDRA will be joined by Vintage Cars, the American Super Cups and 4 Cylinder Stocks. TUNDRA’s main event will be a 60-lap feature with a 35-lap Waterfurnace Shootout for non-qualifying cars.

Golden Sands Speedway is located at 10992 Hwy. 54 just outside of Plover, Wis. For more information visit www.gssraces.com

The Unified Northern Drivers Racing Association (TUNDRA) Super Late Model Series was formed in 2011 as the Alive For Five Super Late Model Series at Dells Raceway Park.
