PLOVER, Wis. (July 19, 2024) – Ty Fredrickson patiently picked his way through the field to take the lead with 28 laps remaining in the Blue Knight 88 at Golden Sands Speedway Friday. He was able to hold off the advances of Brock Heinrich on the way to his second TUNDRA Super Late Model Series win of the season.

Despite starting Sixth, Fredrickson fell back to Ninth at the start of the race and had to work his way to the front again.  Once he took the lead, he was unable to run away and had to turn Heinrich aside several times in the final laps.  John Beale also came to the doorstep to challenge the leaders late.

“On the initial start we got shuffled back a little bit, so I knew I was going to have to be a little harder on my tires than I wanted to run them down,” Fredrickson said. “Luckily, I was able to get by Brock when I still had some tires left.  After that I was just skating around and hoping he couldn’t get under me.”

The win backed up Fredrickson’s fast time and win in the season opener at Wisconsin International Raceway.  It also put him into the history books as the first rookie to win more than a single race in a season.

Jerad DeBoer paced the field early in the 88-lap main.  Although he looked comfortable out front, a challenger arrived in Justin Mondeik during a restart on lap 13 after Colin Reffner experienced fuel line issues with his machine.

Mondeik took the lead and left DeBoer to deal with Heinrich and Beale.  At this point Fredrickson also took advantage of the high line on a restart to move into the Top Five. The top group settled in to ride until a caution paused the action on lap 30 when Frank Nitzke’s powerplant let go.

On the restart it was Heinrich who was able to maneuver past Mondeik.  He grabbed the lead on lap 34, leaving Mondeik to deal with Fredrickson, who swept past Beale and DeBoer on the restart.  Two laps after Heinrich took the lead, Fredrickson grabbed Second and DeBoer followed to Third.

Fredrickson rode behind Heinrich until lap 60 when he was able to sweep to the inside and grab the top spot. On the same lap Beale slid past DeBoer to take Third. He had nearly a straightaway to make up on the lead duo.

As the laps clicked off Heinrich kept the gap close, and slowly started to close.  Beale chopped away even quicker and caught the leaders with under ten laps to go.  In the final five laps Heinrich erased the three-car-length gap. He looked to the outside coming to the white flag, but could not generate enough of a challenge.  At the same time, Beale took a look to the inside, but would have to settle for Third.

Behind them Jevin Guralski, who had sliced his way through the field, picked up his first TUNDRA Top Five coming home Fourth. Jerad DeBoer ended his best day at a TUNDRA event by rounding out the Top Five.

The result pushed Fredrickson to a 20-point lead over Heinrich with just one event remaining in 2024.  The team of Beale and Dalton Zehr sit Third 36 points out and Justin Mondeik is still within range of a title 42 points out in Fourth. The final event of the 2024 TUNDRA Super Late Model season is again at Golden Sands Speedway. The Cleaver Classic 108 will be held on Labor Day – Monday, September 2 – with a 2pm start time.
