TUNDRA FIELD HEADS INTO PIVOTAL SUNDAY STOP AT STATE PARK

GREEN BAY, Wis. (September 7, 2022) – After a short turnaround for teams to catch their collective breath, the TUNDRA Super Late Model Series heads to State Park Speedway this Sunday, September 11 to make up the rained-out event from early August.

Monday’s event at Golden Sands tightened up the point standings with two races remaining on the 2022 schedule. Justin Mondeik’s lead sits at six points over the team of John Beale and Dalton Zehr. Defending Champion Riley Stenjem closed to within 22 points. Colin Reffner now sits just 37 points out of the top spot.

Of the four, Mondeik has had the best success at the quarter-mile, which happens to be his home track. Mondeik has won three straight track titles and captured the win the last time TUNDRA visited in 2020. He hopes to build up some breathing room before heading into the final event of the season at Dells Raceway Park.

Beale has recorded three Top Six finishes in TUNDRA action at State Park and won several features at the facility, including Wisconsin Challenge Series events. He has shown consistent speed in his appearances at the quarter-mile.

Stenjem has just one TUNDRA start at State Park. It came in 2020 when he finished 12th. It was Stenjem’s first ever Super Late Model start at the tricky track.

Reffner has shown excellent speed with a fast time at State Park in 2018, but has had sour luck during the feature events. A turnaround in fortune on Sunday could bring him even closer into the Championship conversation.

Also closing in on the top point-getters is the team of James Swan and Jordan DeVoy. Swan will tag in for Sunday’s event. He finished eighth in the 2020 TUNDRA stop.

Several locals will make things tough on the title contenders. Mark Mackesy has won two TUNDRA events at State Park. Brock Heinrich, a former Late Model Champion at SPS, comes off a strong Third Place finish on Monday. MG Gajewski is a former track Champion. EPYK Media Rookie Kole Guralski recorded a Fifth Place finish in the Detjens Memorial in July. Travis Volm, who set fast time on Monday, has recorded three feature wins at Wausau this season.

Two drivers are slated to make their first TUNDRA start. Brandon Reichenberger is a former WIR ¼-Mile Late Model Champion. He’ll be teamed with Mackville Motorsports. Bryce Miller, a past Midwest Truck Series Rookie of the Year is also looking to make his first start.

TUNDRA will be joined by the SPS Mini-Stocks and Mini-Mods who will be honoring the late George Seliger. The Wisconsin Sport Trucks and Dairyland Vintage Series will also be on hand. Fan gates open at noon with racing to begin at 2pm.

State Park Speedway is located at 147711 North Mountain Rd in Wausau. For more information visit http://www.stateparkspeedway.com
